Jurek Martin (1936-2019) was a Polish-born American journalist and author. He began his journalism career in England in the 1960s, writing for The Guardian and serving as the paper's New York correspondent from 1968 to 1972. He later worked for the Financial Times and The International Herald Tribune.
Martin was known for his clear, concise writing style and his ability to explain complex financial and economic issues in a way that was accessible to the general public. He authored several books, including the 2002 memoir "The Sword and the Shield," about his experiences as a refugee from Nazi-occupied Poland and his later career as a journalist.
Martin remained active in journalism until his death in 2019 at the age of 83.
